The piano is the first step towards making the station become a more inviting place.
Given Thornton Heath’s musical connections we are looking forward to our famous MOBO winners bashing out a tune or two!
The piano has been donated by local businesswoman Harriet Thomas, director of Boggie Mites, which uses music to support pre literacy skills and promote physical and emotional development in children.
Andrea Perry, who runs a garden design business, Polly’s Perennials, sponsored the transportation of the piano to its new home in the tunnel on the way to Platform 3.
We are really looking forward to commuters tickling the ivories on the latest addition at Thornton Heath train station - a piano.
Thornton Heath Community Action Team is working with Southern Railway to make improvements to the station so it is a much more comfortable and creative environment for train users.
We are looking forward to commuters joining in with an impromptu sing along!
THCAT hopes this will just be the start of things to come with art work, planting and other improvements to the waiting room area planned - with the support Govia Thameslink Railway Ltd - set to make the daily commute a lot more bearable!
