Thornton Heath’s Daffodil Competition!

Daffodils at Thornton Heath Clocktower

Thornton Heath Community Action Team invites “Thornton Heathers” to participate in our Spring Daffodil Competition.

As we walk along our streets, those early spring days would be brightened by seeing “a host of golden daffodils… fluttering and dancing in the breeze”.

What are the competition categories?

There will be three categories with a prize for the best display in each one:

  1. Front gardens (can be in flower beds, pots, planters, window boxes, or balconies etc. as long as they can be seen from the street)
  2. Streets (Why not team up with neighbours and enter your street! This category includes front gardens and for more impact, can also include miniature daffodils in tree pits or strips of land)
  3. Frontage of businesses & organisations (including pubs, shops, cafés, surgeries, schools, religious premises etc. & must be visible from the street)

Entries are for one category only and the address must be in one of Thornton Heath’s three wards: Thornton Heath, Bensham Manor and West Thornton.

How do I enter the daffodil competition?

All you need to do is drop a quick email with your name, address & category (1, 2 or 3) to action@thorntonheath.net or download and complete the application form below.

Alternatively, print, complete and deliver the form to: THCAT Spring Daffodil Competition 2025, 9 Quadrant Road, Thornton Heath CR7 7DB

When do I need to apply by?

Thornton Heath Community Action Team must receive your application by midnight on the 31st January 2025.

When will my daffodil display be judged?

Judging will take place in the first week of March 2025 with prize-winners announced soon after.

THCAT’s tips

  • Ideally you’ll be wanting to get your bulbs in, and protected from frost (and squirrels!), by early December.
  • Planting a variety of daffodils at different depths may help to stagger and lengthen the flowering period.

Share the love!

We’d love to follow your daffodil competition journey, so please share your pics on social media, tagging Thornton Heath Community Action Team. #ThorntonHeathSpring #WeAreThorntonHeath

Have too many bulbs? Why not offer them to a neighbour and encourage them to join in the competition! Even better, team up and enter your street in the 2nd category.

Last but not least, please help spread the word throughout Thornton Heath!

Let’s make the area glow this spring!
