On Wednesday 20th July 2016, we proudly held the ceremony at The Croydon - Streatham Ruby Club and announced the winners for our In Bloom competition . The Mayor of Croydon had attended and gave the prizes to 4 individuals and 4 businesses in Thornton Heath. We want to thank all participants and your effort to make Thornton Heath a greener and cleaner place for all to live.

The winning garden in Burlington Road showed the possibilities of creating a beautiful urban front garden in such a small space.
Gardens were graded on kerb appeal, effort, design, biodiversity and colour scheme.
This garden scored highly on all. What made this garden the winner was because it actually felt alive.
The competition was all very tight hence the joint thirds.
The Bensham Close front garden created a river affect using slate and had some lovely planting.
I adore topiary so I was always going to love the Howberry Road topiary front garden. Beautifully designed, and well looked after this garden ticks all the boxes.
The effort that has gone in to this over the years is clearly of a super human level and the entrant should be proud of their effort. This garden is a rare and real find.
The join 3rd prize on Brigstock Road is what the RHS Greening Grey Britain campaign is all about using a driveway to its best affect by not concreting over it but creating innovative borders with beautiful Hydrangeas which reminded me of Candyfloss!
What I liked about these two gardens was the stories they told.

Thornton Heath Community Action Team invites residents and businesses to roll up your sleeves and show us your gardening skills! We are looking for the best and brightest front gardens and business premises to enter for the first ever Thornton Heath in Bloom competition.
All you have to do is live in Thornton Heath and make your front garden or balcony - whether green or paved - look appealing with flowers, pots, or hanging baskets.
Please help us with this competition by encouraging all your neighbours to join in (even if they only plant up a couple of hanging baskets or large pots) and by giving out leaflets in your street. Email action@thorntonheath.net and we’ll drop some leaflets at your place. Thank you!
We also want local businesses to get growing and brighten up their shop premises with hanging baskets and planters.
There will be prizes for the top three judged residential garden spaces and businesses premises. The competition, organised by Thornton Heath Community Action Team, will be judged the week of July 11th 2016.
